Trish Vasta, our new garden educator, came to Einstein after years of experience in gardening organically and great enthusiasm in educating children through puppetry and playful games. The third graders have learned more about the garden than ever before.
Lesson 1: Planting wheat grass in recycled togo containers.
Lesson 2: Introduction to human and plant needs. Sugarcane samples.
Started class garden beds by digging, raking and planting new starts.
Lesson 3: Soil - Worm puppet show and intro to composting and worm composting.

2011 Update
Our new garden educator, Colin, has been revitalizing our program. starting Fall 2010, the students have been learning a lot especially about composting and worms, He has done an incredible job behind the scenes organizing the tool shed.
Third grade students primarily work in the garden. The after school program last semester offered a more intensive organic gardening experience for the elementary students.
Here's some recent pictures of the herb garden and edible garden.
Here are some pictures our our kinder area thanks to Mary Shannon, art teacher, and Willow, parent. New concrete work, painted tables couldn't have happened without Willow's help. The beautiful mural, succulents, and the new beautiful flowers from recycled container lids which are throughout campus is the art teacher's Mrs. Heinzelman creations. Our new seeds packed and hand drawn by the 3rd graders and selling well. Our cooking class at Alchemy also received a lot of recognition for The great Chef Ricardo and our school.

Under the Sea -Baja Garden
Here the before and after pictures!
3C with Mrs. Guarino worked so hard clearing bushes in front of the mural at the corner of Fern St and Ash St. Then we moved the garden so that we can finish it this year. The mural will take a while to repaint and next year, we'll finish that Baja Garden. The Under the Sea Baja Garden is really wonderful to look at, watch the cactus blooming but you don't want to horse around that area and fall in.
The kids will be making fish and adding other details.
Visit the Quail Gardens in Encinitas to see their Undersea Garden, it's absolutely amazing, here are some pictures.

The Baja California Garden at AEA
Here they are....the 3rd graders from Ms. Guarino's class ripping out the shrubs at the corner of Fern St and Ash St. The beautiful sketches are on display in the MPR, go see them.
